October 2010 Newsletter

When a tree has plenty of sap, it is able to sustain and grow. It moves the nutrients that the tree needs to thrive, and maintains the turgor needed for the plant’s structure and its ability to receive solar energy. While the obvious relationship in the human body to sap would be blood, there is a term in yoga that we can consider. Ojas is one of the three vital essences in Ayurveda. It is the “substance that maintains life” or the “prime vigor” that feeds us holistically and protects our body from illness. When we deplete our ojas, we are more prone to disease and depression. When our ojas is high, we are vibrant, feel at ease, and our body seems to hum as it functions as it was designed to do.

This fall, at 8 Limbs we are working with monthly themes that correspond to the first letter of the month. The words for October are Om and Ojas. We chant the sound Om in nearly every yoga class, let’s go deeper into what its meaning
and purpose.

Tune in to the new feature on our new website, Yoginquiry, to see what answers come in for or to answer yourself the following questions the Curious Yogi has posed:
“What is OM?”
“How can I increase my Ojas?”

You can access Yoginquiry from our new site at the bottom nav bar or enter www.yoginquiry.com. It is your resource for all things yoga. Note the different sections that help folks find the info they are most curious about.
Read below for the amazing workshops our teachers have created for you this month. This coming weekend you can OOOpen your Hips with Tami or OOOpen your mind with Jen’s Yin & Yoga Sutras series. Sign up today!

Here’s to increasing Ojas!
Anne Phyfe

P.S. I guarantee you’ll increase your Ojas on a yoga retreat. Melina and I have several spaces left in our Fall Yoga Retreat at Sleeping Lady in Leavenworth, WA. Or plan a week-long tropical retreat to Mexico or Guatemala (see below). OOOOh yes.

To resist the frigidity of old age, one must combine the body, the mind, and the heart. And to keep these in parallel vigor one must exercise, study, and love.
