When i feel very challenged, I find that my initial tendency is to do a slow, recuperative, yin- type practice. In the past this has helped. However, it sometimes brings my energies down, and releases dark emotions from the tissues that hold them.

I have been in a period of transition and have recently found that instead, a high- energy, challenging practice is actually just the thing I need when I'm feeling chaotic. It first seemed counter-intuitive, but it is uplifting and builds my confidence. (If im not sure if I can do it in the "real" world, at least I know how to push myself mindfully on the mat, and this can carry over).

Anyhow, whether I am trying to counter-balance the state of my life, or match it in order to teach myself how to deal-- yoga is a powerful tool for navigating through rough patches!
